The NIMC is comprised of active members of our church family, both male and female of various ages and backgrounds, who share a common interest in the mission outreach of our church beyond the Detroit metro area. The committee is chaired by our Session Elder and is supported by both a member of the Deacons and our Associate Minister.

The goal of the NIMIC is to provide hands-on mission support to our nation and the world beyond. The NIMC encourages congregational engagement through: prayer; sharing the Lord's financial gifts; by providing hands-on opportunities of service which encourage our church family to share the talents they have received from God with individuals in need.

  • Exhibiting the Kingdom of God to the World.
  • Prayerfully seeking God's vision for FPCP's Local, National & International Call-to-Mission.

Ministry focus:

The NIMC focuses on those who face uncertain futures due to poverty, natural disasters or geopolitical crisis. Wherever possible, the NIMC will channel FPCP resources through our larger Presbyterian governing body (PCUSA) to ensure effective use of our gifts.

Past examples of our mission's work include:

  • Sending a FPCP congregational team of 40 young adults and leaders to Colina de Luz home for children in Mexico (www.colinadeluz.org) to run Vacation Bible Schools and help with construction work. To view pictures and videos from our last trip to Colina de Luz, please visit www.myspace.com/relevantcafe.

  • Supporting the Gulf Coast (Katrina) Recovery Effort with missionaries and building supplies. Our congregation has been part of the three separate Presbytery teams going to the Gulf Coast region participating in the rebuilding work of Presbyterian Disaster Relief (PDA) (www.pcusa.org/pda/).

  • Distributing financial support through the PDA program for the victims of natural disasters in Ohio, Kansas and Mexico.

  • Inviting missionary speakers from around the world to engage our FPCP congregation.

  • Organizing FPCP's response to Operation Christmas Child (www.samaritanspurse.org/occ.asp) which resulted in 2008 with the delivery of 200 Christmas shoebox gifts to needy children around the world.

Where and When do I find out more about the NIMC?

Monthly evening meetings are held on the third Tuesday of the month in the media center. Contact the Session Elder or Pastoral Liaison noted above for more information.

Mission Information:

Plymouth FPC/Mtenthera CCAP Partnership

It's official, we have entered into a 10-year Covenant Partnership with Mtenthera CCAP and First Presbyterian. To view the agreement, click here.

Click here to view a slide show of the drilling of a well at Mtenthera CCAP. The project was delayed due to parts shortages and fuel shortages which have plagued many in the Malawi economy. But finally on February 12th, the drilling company commenced work and hit water! This is only the first step in our joint project with Mtenthera to build a water supply system for the church facilities. Now that the water has been found, there is a need to construct an elevated storage tank and pumping system to send the water into the tank. Once there it will be piped into the church buildings and manse. So much work to be done an additional $7,000 needs to be raised to complete the project.

Disaster Relief Efforts

1.5 million people have been made homeless due to the worst monsoon season flooding in Pakistan in 80 years.  Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) has been working quickly with our ecumenical partners on the ground to distribute essential aid to families and deliver critical relief to people affected by this crisis. Assistance includes food and non-food relief items, emergency shelter and basic health services. So far various shelter and food items supplied by PDA have reached 155,200 people in Pakistan, but continued flooding, washed out bridges and continued difficulty with helicopter flights due to the weather have delayed the response.

Dollar Matching Appeal

News stories out of Pakistan have indicated that coordination of response remains hampered by continued rain and flooding and that, whether by lack of awareness, donor fatigue or by the political situation in Pakistan, the international response has not been as strong to the Pakistan situation as to recent international disasters such as the earthquake in Haiti.  National/International Mission Committee has taken as a guiding philosophy to step in more affirmatively in situations where the international response does not appear to be as strong to help stand in the gap.  In order to achieve this for the Pakistan response and to maximize the effect of individual contribution dollars, NIMC will match dollar for dollar all contributions the PDA Pakistan Response made through the church up to a total of $500

In order to have your contribution matched, please make a check payable to First Presbyterian Church of Plymouth with "PDA Pakistan Response" in the memo line.  Send the contribution to Jeanne Chute in the church office.  NIMC will match this contribution of out funds set aside for disaster response.   To read the details of the Presbyterian response please visit PDA at the following web address:
